Okay, for those of you who know a little about me personally and maybe would like an update…
June 10th I went into the hospital to have some spinal surgery. The neurosurgeon (a trusted and renowned specialist in
this area but alas, not Doctor McDreamy! LOL) removed my cervical vertebrae three through seven and replaced it
with synthetic bone, then put in a metal plate and screws to hold it all together. It isn’t a pretty sight, but then I am hoping
this alleviates the fear of falling and becoming a quadriplegic – at least I can feel my face these days.
The day before we finally closed on our house at 11:00 AM (we were supposed to do it earlier, but the former owner
was just a butthead – enough said!). We had to scramble to get the heavy things in place before my surgery, which
was at 5:45 AM the next morning. We fell into bed exhausted at 3:30 got maybe an hours sleep before I had to leave.
My roommate/sister had a lot on her plate taking care of me, the house move, and the dogs. And she has never much
been the care-giver – that’s been my job most of our lives.
My huge bed never made it up the stairs so when I got out of the hospital I spent some days on the floor (16” deep
queen mattress and regular box springs so I was pretty much off the floor anyway!) until some friends from work
could move the rest of the heavy stuff and a new box springs that would fit up the stairs was delivered with the rest
of our furniture. It almost looks like home with the exception of boxes still piled in the dining area. Since we rarely have
guests or eat in the dining room we are using the dining room itself as dedicated office space. Woo who!
We are getting pretty well settled in, my computers are up and running with Internet FINALLY and cable television
(though I haven’t watched it like I thought I would). I love the family friendly neighborhood where neighbors yell ‘welcome
to the neighborhood!’ when you drive by, you can talk over the fence – and one nice neighbor even baked us a plate of
muffins. This was the sort of place I grew up in and I am glad to see these places still exist even in the city.
I had a stack of DVD’s I planned to watch and books to read but getting the house in order (I am one of those that can’t
settle down in a mess) has taken precedents.
Tomorrow I got back and see when I will be allowed to return to work – hopefully all my disobeying the order not to lift
too much will not set back my recovery. I like being off but I like to be able to buy food more!
I have finished my first full-length novel called The Shadows of New Genesis about a two children with exceptional talents
(like lightening, mind reading, and moving things with their minds)
who are raised in what is basically a prison and how they grow to adulthood. It is a story about unwavering love and
faith in each other. With a large dose of treachery tossed in!
Currently I need to finish my second book about an alien who comes down to earth and ends up teaching a human
about what love is.
As you can see, reading and writing are my passions. And it is this site that has given me the confidence to try and
make a go of it as an author. I have you to thank!
Hope you all have a wonderful summer!
